Healthy Work-Life Balance - 3 Powerful Tips
Stop Glamorizing Hustle Culture
Let's get one thing straight: hustle culture is toxic. The idea that we must work non-stop, sacrificing our health and relationships to be at best productive, is not only unrealistic but also detrimental to our well-being. It's time to reject the notion that working ourselves to the bone is something to be celebrated.
You know, I have a really unbelievable story that may inspire you to stop chasing hustle culture. My friend, after working for 1 year in customer service, once noticed waking up with a swollen face. She went for a health check, and discovered her kidneys are acute kidney injury level 4, so she nearly has to do a kidney transplant. Just because she works from 8 am till 12 pm and constantly uses energy drinks to stay awake, sleep only 4 hours a day. She achieved the best performance of the year, but now she has to suffocate with medicine and treatment for years to get healthier.
This is just one of the million cases out there that ignore the importance of health. I really hope that we can respect self-relaxation time. It is one component of a sustainable career. When you're well-rested and emotionally recharged, you'll be more focused, creative, and productive–which benefits both you and your employer.
Spend Time For People You Love
In the relentless pursuit of career ambitions and checking off endless to-do lists, we often neglect the most important component of a truly fulfilling life: nurturing our closest relationships.
After all, when you have problems, there are only friends and family who are gonna help and support you, not your job. Taking the time to connect with those you love will bring you true happiness. Out of all the things to do on your busy schedule, all you need is spending a little time with someone that you care about. Maybe talking for 5-10 minutes on the phone can help a lot in stress reduction and enhancing your relationship.
Don’t just spend time with someone, but think about your work, or your blog, or the errands you have to run. Really be there, in that moment, with that person. Because that’s a moment you’ll never get back, so spend it wisely. Achieving work-life balance isn't just about managing time, but consciously investing in what matters most.
Schedule Self-Care Like Important Meetings
How often do you cancel plans for self-care because "something came up at work"? We have an unhealthy habit of letting work commitments trump our own needs.
You may not know that quality alone time is really important to enter a whole new level of understanding yourself. Realizing your wants and needs in a greater way can help you take the steps you need to make them come true.
Alone time can be a good chance for growth and personal development. Being in a space where you can listen to your own thoughts, feelings, expectations, wants, and needs without the pressures and judgments that others may impose.
The best way to have quality alone time is to spend time with yourself to do whatever you like: sleeping in a bed for half of the day, eating at your favorite restaurant or trying something new.
Use your alone time to identify your current position in your life. Flip the script by blocking off dedicated self-care time in your calendar and treating it with the same importance as you would a meeting with your boss.
At the end of the day, we're human beings, not machines. I know it's hard to do, especially in this fast-paced world where there is always something going on. But I'm here to remind you that your worth extends far beyond your productivity levels. You deserve to nurture your mind, body, and soul without guilt or apologies.
