Analyze Case Studies Of Failed SEO Campaigns

I am an SEO executive for 2 years, directly worked and planned many projects. I realized that there are some lessons we should learn from failed campaign to have a successful SEO year in 2024. You may have heard some of this on the internet already, however, I am going to discuss further and deeper in each lesson that I learned.

In creating content process, the research keyword is one of the biggest step define the success of the project. Using short-tail keywords, keywords nobody is searching and keyword cannibalization are there major problems in researching keywords.

I tried to aim for main and realistic keywords when I just start my project. You may not know that around 4.4 million to 7.5 million blog posts published daily, WordPress alone is estimated to host around 2.33 million posts. Therefore, using competitive ‘head’ keywords to rank in a niche is really difficult. Instead, try research long-tail keywords which will have a higher chance of converting.

Example : It will be too hard to start ranking for the term “Electric Guitar”, perhaps try “ Electric guitar for beginner”, could be a good tactic.

Turning to this second pifall that is using keywords nobody is searching ( no search volume). This keyword mistake is partly related to the previous one. This type of keywords may be not related to user search intent or too long tail and people will not find you. Lastly, is keyword cannibalization. This will happen when you have various blog/articles using the same key phrase. As the result, Google will only show 1 or 2 results, and you are literally competing with yourself.

Let’s turning to the third failure in one project that I tested. That is the temptation of AI and automate to produce a series of AI-generated content. As soon as Google Core Update 2024 arrived in March, my 100% AI blog was penalized, while my human-written collaboration with AI content blog saw a significant growth. In fact, AI only remix and collect ideas from what is already on the internet.

For that reason, you should be wise when using AI in content creation. AI can help you with collect information, links,... however, the most important factors in content are realistic opinions or experiences of the writer.

In conclusion, these are just two of many problems that SEO projects can meet. Hopes this piece of experiences from me can help you stay away from those hurdles. Stay strong and be successful!
